Basically today our plan is to visit Madame Tussauds Wax Museum and The Peak Tower at Victoria Peak, Hong Kong so we have plenty of time to burn. Being the free and easy trip that we plan it would be, we basically spend the whole morning walking around Hong Kong city, blending into the locals, hahaha ! We take around half day visiting places that interest us. We had our breakfast at Sea View Congee Shop (海景粥店), Mongkok. After breakfast we head straight to our first stop.
Golden Bauhinia Square
The bauhinia is the emblem of Hong Kong. The Forever Blooming Bauhinia Sculpture that gives the Expo Promenade the commonly used name, Golden Bauhinia Square, was a gift from the Central Government to mark the 1997 Handover, an occasion that held tremendous significance for the world’s largest nation and that stands out as a landmark event in 20th century history.
Today the site is hugely popular with Chinese visitors who come to take photos of the Reunification Monument, which bears inscriptions of the calligraphy of President Jiang Zemin who represented China at the Handover Ceremony and to enjoy the pomp and symbolism of the daily Flag-raising Ceremony with beautiful Victoria Harbour as a backdrop.
Flag-raising Ceremony
- Daily except the first of each month
- Time : 7.50 am - 8.03 am
- This ceremony is performed by Hong Kong police officers in ceremonial uniform and includes the playing of the national anthem. The ceremony will be conducted by different uniformed youth groups on the second Sunday of each month.
Enhanced Flag-raising Ceremony
- On the first day of every month
- Time : 7.45 am - 8.13 am
- This ceremony includes a flag raising party of Hong Kong police officers accompanied by a rifle unit both wearing full uniform. The ceremony will include the playing of the national anthem by the Police Band followed by a 10-minute musical performance by the Police Pipe Band.
Getting There :
- Take MTR to Wan Chai Station Exit A1.
- Walk along the footbridge and follow the sign board.
- There is sign board along the footbridge
- You will pass through the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
- The Golden Bauhinia Square is after the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
If you walk further into The Golden Bauhinia Square, you will come to the river side overlooking the Victoria Harbour.
After visiting The Golden Bauhinia Square we decided to have a long and slow walk all the way to Statue Square (皇后像廣場). Along our way walking there, we come across construction area, parks and lots lots of buildings, haha !
It seems to be a good idea at first but then we realize, it wasn't ! haha, so if you plan to go over to Statue Square from The Golden Bauhinia Square, use the MTR, don't walk, it is very far .. !
Statue Square (皇后像廣場)
Statue Square is a public pedestrian square in Central, Hong Kong. Built entirely on reclaimed land at the end of the 19th century. Statue Square consists of two parts separated by Chater Road into a northern and a southern sections. It is bordered by Connaught Road Central in the north and by Des Voeux Road Central in the south.
Status Of Sir Thomas Jackson
There is actually nothing much to see here at Statue Square but if you have time to spare, then you can come here to have a look or go shopping at their high class shopping mall, haha !
Getting There :
- Take MTR to Central and Exit J1.
- Walk straight for about 100 meters.
- Statue Square is on your left.
I only spend like few minutes taking photo at Statue Square then i walk across the main Des Voeux Road to The Landmark Shopping Mall. Inside the shopping mall is where i had my very light lunch at Urban Bakery Works.
Urban Bakery Works

Food and environment here is really nice. I like their Lava Cheese Croissant which cost HKD 22.00 and Ball Law Molten Egg Yolk Custard Croissant which also cost HKD 22.00.
The Croissant is really tasty in every bite ! From the crunchy outer layer to the filling inside the Croissant, 2 thumbs up ! Really must try .. !

- Get to Statue Square then cross the main Des Voeux Road.
- Enter The Landmark Shopping Mall.
- Urban Bakery Works is at 3rd Floor.

Landmark Atrium
After a satisfying but light lunch at Urban Bakery Works, we proceed our next visit to Man Mo Temple.
Man Mo Temple
The Man Mo Temple is a picturesque tribute to the God of Literature (Man) and the God of War (Mo) both of whom were worshipped by ambitious students looking to succeed in the civil examinations of Imperial China. These involved rigorous systems aimed at finding the best administrative officials for the state.
Built in 1847, this remains the largest Man Mo temple in Hong Kong. To pause for a moment’s respite under its giant hanging incense coils makes for a pleasant contrast with the hectic pace of the nearby financial district.
Getting There :
- Take MTR to Sheung Wan Station and Exit A2
- Walk along Hillier Street to Queen's Road Central.
- Then proceed up Ladder Street (next to Lok Ku Road) to Hollywood Road
- The Man Mo Temple is in front of you once you finish climbing up Ladder Street

It only take me around 10 minutes to visit Man Mo Temple. After Man Mo Temple i head back to Sheung Wan MTR Station and take MTR straight to my next stop which is the The Peak Tower at Victoria Peak.

After spending few hours on top of Victoria Peak, we eventually conclude our day by visiting Lan Kwai Fong Street.
